rudali
i am listening to the song "dil huun huun karen" from the movie...there is a sense of longing , incompleteness in this song...the echo and silence is so inherent in this song..i dont know if it is a gulzar trait..he always has this sense of incompleteness and behind the veil feeling to his songs..
rudali is about 'rudali' a low caste woman...her life as barren to the desert she belongs to..
works on different levels..talks about the indian caste syastem, talks about being born as woman..exploitation..giving in to the tempatations and fancies of a man...constant questioning of the feminism that you define and hold close..(more on this later)
it is adapted form a bengali novel by Mahasweta Devi...and directed by Kalpna Lajmi..does it take a woman to show the feelings of woman..i do wonder..does a man ever understand the silence or the voice of a woman?
i don't know
somehow i am always drawn to silence because there is something it says...lot more that what words could..doesnt some music always leave you silent?

dil huun huun kare,
ghabraye
ghan dham dham kare,
garajaye
ek boond kabhi paani ki more ankhiyon se barasaye
teri jholi daaru,
sab sukhi paat jo aaye
tera chhua lage,
meri sukhi daal hariyaae
dil huun huun kare,
ghabraye
jis tan ko chhuua tuune
us tan ko chhupaauun
jis man ko laage nainaa,
vo kisko dikhaauun
o mori chandramaa,
teri chaandani ang jalaaye
uunchi tori ataarii,
main ne pankh liye katavaae
dil huun huun kare,
ghabaraae
